Wild flowers have been sown at Caithness farms to attract bees.
A recent BBC article highlights the work being carried out in Scotland to help boost numbers of the rare great yellow bumblebee.
Money from Highland Council’s Landfill Communities Fund was used to help set up a project to sow wild flower seeds at eleven farms in Caithness, where the great yellow clings to survival on the far north coast, Orkney and the Western Isles.
Farmers have an important role to play in helping to support Britain’s wildlife and Stirling-based Bumblebee Conservation Trust, along with Caithness Local Biodiversity Group and Scottish Agricultural College are involved with the project.
