February is a great time to discover self sown seedlings and take cuttings
Welcome to a busy mid February day collecting free plants from self sown seedlings around the garden and checking on plants I propagated in autumn last year.
February is often a month that gardeners in the UK like to wish away but as the ground warms up, nature starts to provide a whole range of plants for free.

Potting up volunteer seedlings
To move or share
I managed to find around 43 free plants today, some I want to keep and relocate and others will go to a friend who is planting a newly acquired area of land.
There is always plenty of Linaria and Ox Eye Daisy (left top and bottom), as these self sow readily and can become a bit unruly if not managed. However, the bees and pollinators love them.
A couple of lovely surprises though are the baby Damson (centre) and Rose seedling (top right).
Rooting in water
Great for propagating herbs
Semi ripe cuttings from Rosemary, Lavender and Hyssop root very easily in just a glass of water on a window ledge.
Remove all lower foliage and change water every few days to keep it oxygenated and free from algae.
Once a goos few strong roots develop, these young plants can be potted on or planted out in the garden.
